Large carved Southeast Asian marble figure of Phra Mae Torani, depicted as a young woman wringing the "cool waters of detachment" out of her long hair to drown a demon sent to tempt Buddha. Unsigned. Affixed to a later rectangular hardwood base. 48" H x 13 1/2" W x 9" D (overall, including base). Sculpture: 44" H x 10" W x 11" D without base. Likely Burmese or Thai, early 20th century or earlier.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Richard J. Eskind, Nashville.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with some scattered marks and surface discolorations, including discoloration to back of subject''s shoulder from previous tape and sales sticker. Scattered small areas of wear.
