2 Japanese Meiji lacquer boxes. 1st item: Makie fubako or letter box, the cover decorated with bird, wave, and floral motifs. Note: Maki-e is a thousand-year old Japanese lacquerware technique that involves sprinkling powdered metals onto wet lacquer to create dimensional designs. 9 1/4 in. L x 3 in. W x 2 in. H. 2nd item: Black lacquer Kodansu cabinet with rooster, duck and flowering tree motif, hinged top over a fitted interior, 2 doors and a drawer with pewter mounts. Both late 19th to early 20th century.
CONDITION: 1st item: Repairs to seams at each side. A couple of sliver-sized chips/losses to edge of top and base. A few very light, scattered abrasions. 2nd item: Scattered small abrasions and scratches. Small chips to feet. Lacks key.
