Georg Kolbe (German, 1877-1947) bronze sculpture, “Klage,” translated as Lament or Grief, #183 from the posthumous edition of 400, 1986. Signed and editioned to underside of feet. 15 in H x 22 in W x 11 in D. Note: Kolbe, who originally trained as a painter in Dresden, Munich and in Paris at the Academie Julian, went on to become one of Germany’s most important sculptors. He was known for his nudes and for several public commissions. His well known “Klage” sculpture explored the themes of sorrow and resilience following World War I.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville area collection.
CONDITION: A couple of spots of green verdigris, otherwise excellent condition.
