Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) offset lithograph after the artist''s Le Grande Passion, 1984 (Ref.: Feldman & Schellmann IIIb.28), depicting in vivid colors a green bottle of French liqueur casting a magenta shadow over a gestural drawing of a flowering passion fruit. With printed signature, lower right. Unframed. Rolled in cardboard shipping tube, possibly as issued. Sheet: 39" H x 37" W. Tube: 37 3/4" L x 4 1/4" dia. Note: Warhol created this image as part of his 1980s Advertisement series. This particular image was used by Carillon Importers Ltd. for La Grande Passion, a passion fruit-flavored brandy. The offset lithographs were primarily made available to liquor stores and distributors as marketing materials, and relatively few have survived.
PROVENANCE: Collection of the late Terry Marshall. Marshall was in the alcohol-beverage industry in Tennessee and received the poster for promotional purposes in the 1980s. This is the second of two identical posters from his collection; the first was sold in our January, 2024 auction, lot #456.
CONDITION: Scattered foxing, primarily to upper third and en verso, plus minor creasing to edges. Print is rolled.
