Large German articulated doll with bisque socket head, blonde wig, brown sleeping eyes, painted brows and lashes, rosy cheeks, pierced ears, and a painted mouth with four upper teeth. Period clothing on composite body with ball joints. Stamped “13” on the back of head, and possibly manufactured by J.D. Kestner, early 20th century, according to an appraisal opinion from 2000. Approximate dimensions: 28 1/2 in. H (16 in. seated) x 11 in. W (arms closed). Appraisal opinion dated November 8, 2000, with additional family information, available to the winning bidder.
PROVENANCE: Irene Sullivan Estate, Oak Ridge, TN descendant of the Callahan family of Knoxville, TN.
CONDITION: Bisque has a few small scratches but no visible cracks or chips to the head. Old repair and cracks around right knee composite. Light staining or sun fading to outerwear. Some loss to wig and missing one earring.
