Mid Century “Kyoto” modular bookshelf or etagere, designed by Gianfranco Frattini, manufactured by Pierluigi Ghianda of Italy and distributed by Knoll Industries, New York, circa 1970s. Geometric shelf system comprised of laminated and ebonized hardwood latticework (with red trim) that can be configured in multiple ways. Legs with incised Knoll Industries mark together with the Ghianda of Italy leaf trademark. 30″ H x 44 1/2″ L x 14 1/8″ D and 30″ H x 88 3/4″ L x 14 1/8″ D. Provenance: The Guardsmark Collection, Lipman Holdings International, Memphis, Tennessee. Note: Guardsmark, a private security firm, was founded in 1963. The company’s headquarters in downtown Memphis was noted for its collection of original Knoll office furniture. CONDITION: Overall very good condition, structurally sound with scattered general use wear. Some scattered marring to top of short section and to one leg.
