Alfred Morang (American, 1910-1958) oil on board painting depicting two women, clad scantily in red dresses and high heels, dancing as a man in a dark suit and hat watches from a distance. Signed “Alfred Morang” lower right. Black painted frame with silvered edges. Peyton Wright Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico label en verso. Sight: 13 1/2 in H x 9 1/2 in W. Frame: 19 in H x 15 in W. Biography: Alfred Morang was born in Maine. During his early career he studied and exhibited in Boston, and also published several works of fiction. He moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico after being diagnosed with Tuberculosis, and became associated with the Transcendental painting group. He died in a fire at his studio in 1958.
PROVENANCE: Private West Tennessee Collection, ex-Peyton Wright Gallery, Santa Fe.
CONDITION: Painting in excellent condition. Frame with a few small spots of wear and corner losses.
