Collection of small white porcelain pharmacy and hygienic advertising jars in various sizes, circa late 19th/early 20th century. Includes jars from: Edward Cooks’ (tooth soap), Timothy White & Taylors (eye ointment), La Reine des Cremes (Paris, stamped M), James Atkinson’s Bears Grease (London), Holloway’s Ointment (London), G. Jozeau (London), W. Hudson Hair Dresser (Manchester), Sarsaparilla (Boots, stamped T), White Rose Paste, S. Maw (London, stamped MAW), and Oriental Tooth Paste, Jewsbury & Brown (Manchester, stamped A). Sizes range from smallest: 1 1/2 in W (G. Joeau) to largest: 3 in. (Jewsbury & Brown).
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Ian M. Mathison, Murfreesboro TN and Big Rapids, MI.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Some jars have been taped together with clear tape and are unopened. Some opened jars have a small velcro strip inside, to keep the lid and jar connected, like a soft hinge. Sarsaparilla and Holloway’s Ointment jars do not have lids.
