Eleven (11) assembled English ceramic apothecary jars, including nine ( 9) green and white lidded ceramic pharmacy jars, stamped “40” on the bottom and with the following text on gilt labels (in alphabetical order): BORAX; CERA ALBA; CETACEUM; CRETA PRAEPAR; PULV AMYLI; UNC: AC: CARBOL; UNC. HYD. AMMON AND HYD: OXID: RUB. Note: the jars labeled CRETA PRAEPAR and UNC: AC BORIC have a round paper label under the lid, with the text: “Coopers’ Pharmacy Ltd., Family and Dispensing Chemists, 188 Kingston Road, Wimbledon, S.W. 10.” with measurements handwritten in ink.9 1/4 in. H x 4 3/4 in. D. Together with a pair of smaller blue and while lidded pharmacy jars include the following text on labels gilt: UNC. HYD.N.O and PIL:FERR:CO. 4 3/4 in. H x 1 1/4 in. D. All jars are Late 19th/Early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Ian M. Mathison, Murfreesboro TN and Big Rapids, MI.
CONDITION: Green jars are in overall good condition, with some staining to the interior and craquelure on exteriors and labels. UMC. HYD. AMMON lid has an old repair and UNC. AC CARBOL has a 1 in. chip on the base and a crack on the side of the lid. Blue jars have craquelure and missing label details on the exterior, some staining to the interior, and small chips to the underside of the lid, consistent with age and use.
