Pietro Bazzanti (Italian, 1842-1881) marble sculpture of the Venus Italica, a standing woman loosely holding a draped garment, after the c.1812 statue by Antonio Canova (Italian, 1757-1822). Signed “P Bazzanti Florence” to front of base. Overall 32 1/2 in H. 2nd half of 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of George Bradley, Lewisburg, TN.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Lower section of base has been reattached with uneven plaster binding and a related crack extends into top of base behind left foot. Chip to marble along back of robe, approximately 1/4 x 1/4 inch. A few fine fissures to marble, possibly inherent, plus minor abrasions without loss. Some discoloration throughout.
