A Spanish Colonial carved and polychrome-painted Santos sculpture depicting Saint James the Moor-Slayer, “Santiago Matamoros”. He is depicted on horseback, holding a partial staff, with a figure lying on the ground beneath the horse’s raised front articulated hooves, all on a rectangular base. 14 1/2 in. H x 13 in. L x 7 in. W. Late 19th/Early 20th century.
CONDITION: Figure is missing an object formally in one hand. Staff with missing elements. Wood shrinkage or break to the horse’s neck and an old repaired break to left front and back legs. Scattered losses and wear to paint.
