Scottish Sampler, silk on linen, stitched by Margaret Urquhart, listing names of her family members including mother Mary Kerr, father James Urquhart, and siblings, along with 2 alphabets rendered in cross and eyelet stitch. The lower third of the sampler features images of a house, bird, trees and plants, and signature with possible date 1811. Housed under glass in a later molded giltwood frame. 17 in H x 8 in W. Frame: 18 1/2 in H x 9 1/2 in W.
PROVENANCE: Private Southern collection.
CONDITION: Fading, including to signature. Sampler is tacked to backing with old square nails which have left dark oxidation stains to ground and caused some losses to edge. Later frame and glass.
