Southern walnut high chest on stand, yellow pine secondary. Top with heavy ogee molding over three drawers over two half drawers over three graduated drawers configuration with molded drawer edges. Upper case rests on a conforming stand with an ogee molding and cabriole legs ending in trifid feet. Quaker locks on the bank of three horizontal drawers and full-length dust boards of yellow pine. Dovetails visible on underside of upper case. Old label on backboard of chest and lower stand, “H. N. Thompson”. 42 7/8 in. L x 23 1/4 in. W x 44 1/8 in. H. Overall 59 1/2 in. Possibly Virginia, circa 1800.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Donna C. Rogers, Greeneville, TN.
CONDITION: Refinished. Patches to drawers with the largest on the bottom drawer (lower left corner) and a couple of small drawer patches on the lower drawer dividers near the lock area. Diamond escutcheons have been added; brasses conform to the original holes but appear to be 20th-century reproductions. Lower three drawers of chest with minimal buildup of drawer sides.
