After Caspar Netscher (Dutch, 1639-1684), “A Duet,” oil on canvas painting laid to board. A woman in a satin dress stands at a virginal (a musical instrument similar to a harpsichord) in a domestic interior while a seated man sings from a songbook and a second woman watches from her seat. Housed in a giltwood frame. Sight: 9 1/8 in. H x 11 in. W. Framed: 17 3/4 in. H x 16 in. W. 19th century. Note: Netscher’s original painting is held in the collection of the Gemaldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden (inv. no. 1349).
CONDITION: Canvas has been laid to board. With craquelure throughout. Scattered areas of retouch, largest to feather on man’s hat and area just above, 1 1/2 x 3/4 inches. Also with minor frame abrasions and some associated retouching.
