Two (2) 19th century or earlier continental school oil on canvas floral still life paintings, each depicting bouquets of colorful flowers in ornate vases and likely by the same hand. The painting with three fallen blossoms is housed in a 1907 giltwood Carrig-Rohane frame carved by Hermann Dudley Murphy (1867-1945) and incised “19 [‘M’ monogram] 07 / Carrig Rohane / 345” to back of frame. The painting with one fallen blossom is housed in a replica carved giltwood frame by E. Polorolo & Sons. Both frames with name plate that reads “‘Italian Floral’ Artist Unknown / Memorial to Dr Andrew H. Scott / by Daughter, Mrs. Lloyd England.” Each painting measures sight: 39 1/2 in. H x 30 3/8 in. W. Each frame: 51 in. H x 42 in. W. Note: Dr. Andrew Scott (Arkansas, 1840-1909) served during the Civil War in the Confederacy as a Private in Company A, 1st Battalion, Arkansas Calvary. His daughter, Lenora Scott England (Arkansas, 1883-1975), married Lloyd England (Arkansas, 1875-1925) who served as Adjutant General of Arkansas from 1913 until 1919. Lloyd England Hall on the grounds of Camp Robinson in North Little Rock, Arkansas, bears his name.

CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Canvases have been re-stretched on stretchers smaller than the original compositions so that some edges of paintings wrap around stretchers. Both with craquelure throughout. Painting in Carrig-Rohane frame with scattered areas of minor retouching plus 2 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch area to lower left, along lower edge of lowest blossom, and faint stretcher marks. Other painting with an area of minor, stable chips to crack in paint later at upper left, 3/8 inch long. Carrig-Rohane frame with cracks, abrasions, and losses to gilt plus a few minor losses to lip, largest to upper left, 1 1/2 inch long.
