Pair of companion 18th-century French round miniature watercolors bust portraits. Depicting a man with a powdered wig wearing a red coat, white waistcoat, shirt, and cravat, and his wife wearing a white hat with ribbon, a light blue dress with a silk purple belt, and white fichu. Both are housed in the original tooled red leather cases and have inscriptions identifying the sitters as Monsieur and Madame Borel-Thuillier. Unsigned. Sight: 2 5/8" dia.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, TN collection, by descent through the family.
CONDITION: Both portraits are in overall very good condition and have not been examined out of the frame. Some dust and debris under the glass with grime around the perimeter. Leather cases with light wear.
