Greene Co., Tennessee walnut pie safe of small size, one dovetailed drawer with wooden pulls over two doors with large inset tins having punched double lyre designs, paneled sides, turned feet. Poplar secondary, two interior shelves. Illegible black script on the back panel of safe. Interior drawer with a note stating the safe was bought in a log cabin in Ottway (Northern Greene Co.). Note – a sideboard with identical punched tins is illustrated in "Art & Furniture of East Tennessee", Namuni Hale Young, p. 42, Illustration 76. 45 7/8" H x 42 1/8" W x 18 1/4"D. Mid 19th century. Provenance: Betty Irene Yates estate, Greeneville, TN. Condition: Older refinish, older surface on tins, minimal buildup to drawer sides and reinforcement of drawer supports.
