Very large late Ming or Qing Carved Polychrome Wooden Taoist Immortal or Buddha figure, depicted holding a Kamandalu pot (symbolizing immortality, fertility, life and wealth), and with a niche carved en verso. Mounted to a 1/2" H metal base. Overall dimensions (including base) 47 1/2" H x 16" W x 11" D. Note: this item also includes an optional later black painted pedestal, 28" H x 18" W x 14" D.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Richard J. Eskind, Nashville.
CONDITION: Significant wear and losses due to moisture and insect damage, to back (including shoulder and base) and to front (cushion area, base). Additional losses to subject''s toes, left hand, and the lid of the pot.
