Two (2) East TN William Grindstaff stoneware pottery jars. 1st Item: ovoid jar impressed half-crescent mark W. GRINSTAFF 18 for Grindstaff Pottery (1870 – 1890) with two bilateral knob handles, tapering tan and gray body. 7 7/8 in. H. 2nd item: Grindstaff jar stamped “2” and “W. Grindstaff” with pulled lug handles and two incised lines on the shoulder. 12 7/8 in. H.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Marty and David Black, Rockford, TN.
CONDITION: 1st item: Broken and glued with missing voids to the underside of the rim. 2nd item: Glued hairline crack running from rim to base, and a horizontal hairline crack intersecting, a triangular missing section of the underside base filled with putty. Some overpainting is likely to the entire jar.
