Helen Komar (American, 1927-2020) oil on canvas Expressionist painting depicting a nude dancer surrounded by colorful forms and ethereal reflections. Signed "Komar" lower left. Housed in a carved, whitewashed frame. Sight: 19" H x 15" W. Frame: 23" H x 19" W.
Note: Helen Komar was a pioneering female illustration artist who emigrated from Warsaw, Poland, to Toronto with her family as a child and later to New York in about 1945. She produced some easel paintings but was best known for animating such entertainment classics as the original Spiderman, Popeye the Sailor Man, Casper the Friendly Ghost, The Incredible Mr. Limpet, Fritz the Cat, Raggedy Ann & Andy, The Soldier''s Tale and Daffy Duck''s Quackbusters, in addition to numerous commercial illustrations.
CONDITION: Painting: Excellent condition. 2" area of missing molding to frame edge, lower right.
