Ten (10) New and Old World items, including Ancient Egyptian. 1st item: Egyptian blue faience ushabti with crossed arms, black painted detailing to face with five columns of hieroglyphics to front and back of legs. Previously attached to black wooden base. Ushabti – 5 3/4" H x 2 1/8" W x 1 1/8" D. Base – 1 1/4" H x 2 5/8" W x 2" D. Circa 500 B.C. 2nd item: Egyptian light blue faience ushabti standing against a plinth incised with a column of hieroglyphics. 3 1/4" H x 7/8" W x 7/8" D. 3rd item: Small Neolithic Minoan red ware jar with dot pattern to upper portion of body, traces of possibly later black slip to majority of body. Attribution inscribed in black ink, underside of flat base. 1 1/4" H x 1 5/8" dia. 4th item: Small Egyptian or Middle Eastern buff ware with white faience jar with black painted band of hieroglyphic like symbols to rounded body. 1" H x 1 1/2" dia. 5th item: One (1) biconical spindle whorl carved from dark grey stone with incised circular deigns to each side with pierced hole through center. 1 7/8" dia. 6th-7th items: Two (2) Aztec round buff ware spindle whorls or ear decorations, each with hole to center. Ranging in size from 1 5/8" dia. to 1 3/4" dia. 8th-10th items: Three (3) Aztec Lake Chapala, Mexico round buff ware beads, each with pierced hole through center. Approximately 1 1/2" dia. Chinese Famille Rose porcelain vase, squared form, each side with figural landscape decoration, calligraphy inscriptions, and red seals. Red archaic seal form mark to the base. 12 3/4" H. 20th century. CONDITION: Overall very good condition. [See more photos →]

Two (2) pins including Tiffany diamond heart shaped brooch. 1st item: Tiffany & Company .900 platinum heart-shaped brooch with eighteen prong-set round brilliant cut diamonds defining the perimeter. The diamonds weigh an estimated 3 carats total and are approximately VVS1-VVS2 clarity and E-F color. 1-1/8" H x 1-1/16" W. Marked "Tiffany & Co. Irid Plat." on back. 7.3 grams. 2nd item: 14k yellow gold 1 1/8" dia. (28mm) pearl circle pin with eighteen 4 mm round white cultured pearls, Maker's mark EB in triangle. 4.2 grams. Pair of Chinese Republic period porcelain jardinieres and underplates, hexagonal form with flaring tims, blue overglaze decoration and edge gilding to rims of both jardinieres and underplates; the sides of jardinieres painted with scenes of immortals in lush landscapes, birds and flowering branches. Unmarked. 8" H x 9 1/4" dia. Chinese, early 20th century. Provenance: found in a Nashville, Tennessee estate. CONDITION: Wear to gilt edging and blue overglaze rim decoration; one has a 1" firing crack to interior. Small hairline to one underplate. [See more photos →]

Manner of Haddon Sundblom (American, 1899-1976) contemporary oil on canvas Coca Cola illustration painting after the 1949 advertisement depicting the Sprite Boy and a red counter dispensing machine, reading "Thirst Knows No Season, Refreshment…..Real Refreshment…..Awaits, 5 cents". Housed in a contemporary carved gilt wood frame with painted wood liner. Sight – 22 1/2" H x 18 1/2" W. Framed – 27 1/2" H x 23 1/2" W. Anglo Indian equestrian portrait watercolor and gouache on paper with gilt embellishments, depicting a Mughal emperor or nobleman on horseback holding a sword and dressed in fancy attire, with attendants on foot, banner and canopy on a green backdrop with sliver of sky at the top. Inscription upper margin. Housed in a gilt frame with ribbon matte. Sight – 10 3/4" H x 8 1/2" W. Framed – 12 3/4" H x 10 1/2" W. 19th century. Note: Acquired by the consignor's father during his travels, including the Far East in the 1950's, as part of his world touring business that catered to the rich and famous. Archive of three hundred and forty (340) Garth Montgomery Williams (Colorado, 1912-1996) sketches, letters pertaining to "J.B.'s Harmonica", and more. 1st-128th items: One hundred and twenty-eight (128) sketches, letters, and other documents pertaining to "J.B.'s Harmonica" written by John Sebastian and illustrated by Garth Williams, published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich (HBJ), San Diego, CA, 1993. The majority of the items are pencil or ink sketches on paper or card stock with some artist's proofs, and a mock-up of the book. Also included is a one page TLS from Bonnie Ingber, Editor of Children's Books for HBJ, dated July 14, 1987, written to provide Williams with a First Draft of the book. Also included is a one page TLS from Allyn M. Johnson, Editor of Children's Books for HBJ, dated July 27, 1989 written to provide William with another First Draft of the book for Williams "to make his breaks" on. It also mentions "Tony Johnston's parrot story…to see if you might want to illustrate it". A third, blank First Draft is also included. Twelve (12) pencil on card stock sketches with page numbers, four (4) signed "Garth Williams", nine (9) with "Happy Harmonica" or "Harmonica". Ranging in size from 1" H x 7 1/8" W to 11 5/8" H x 9 1/8" W. 129th-281st items: One hundred and fifty-two (152) pencil, ink, and water color on paper and card stock sketches of human figures, mostly of nudes depicted in various poses and activities. All signed or initialed, some with dates circa 1930's, some with titles, such as "A Quick Life Study". Five (5) mounted to card stock. Ranging in size from 5 1/8" H x 4 1/4" W to 19" H x 13 1/8" W. 282nd-334th items: Fifty-two (52) pencil, ink, and water color on paper sketches of people in a brown card stock scrapbook. Many of the individuals are identified with handwritten inscriptions on or below the sketches. Most signed or initialed, some with dates circa 1930's. Most sketches mounted in scrapbook, some loose. Ranging in size from to 7 3/4" H x 4 3/4" W to 11 3/8" H x 8 7/8" W. Scrapbook – 10 3/4" H x 14 3/4" W x 3/4" D. 335th-340th items: Five (5) ink on blue paper sketches depicting scenes in and around Naples, Italy, two (2) titled "Royal Box-San Carlo-Naples". All signed or initialed by Williams, one (1) of the titled drawings dated "1937". Three (3) housed in mats. Ranging in size from 7 1/2" H x 10 1/4" W to 15 5/8" H x 14 3/8" W. Provenance: From the estate of Garth Williams. Biography: Born in New York City, Garth Williams was an illustrator of several of the more popular post-World War II children's books: Stuart Little (1945) and Charlotte's Web (1952) by E.B. White and the Little House on the Prairie (1971) series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. He also illustrated Cricket in Times Square (1960) by George Selden and The Rescuers (1959) by Margery Sharp. Early in his career, he was a sculptor, whose achievements were officially recognized when he won the British Prix de Rome. (source: Askart). Elgin pocket watch and 10k Masonic enamel pendant, 2 items total. 1st item: Elgin National Watch Co. pocket watch, 18 size, 15-17 jewels, open faced movement. Full case design with inscribed horse and barn in chased scroll and swag cartouche. White enamel dial, Roman numerals, secondary dial, case 1781237, serial# 3825960. Pendent wind and set. Gold-filled finish. 1 3/4" W dial, 2 3/16" W case. Circa 1890. 2nd item: 10k yellow gold Masonic enamel hinged pendant in 3 sections: 1 1/2" L x 7/8" W x 3/8" D. Japanese Meiji period bronze and mixed metals bottle form vase, with finely engraved phoenix and foliate decoration, fretwork decorated raised base. 1st item: A Regency mahogany and satinwood bergere chair having a shaped crest rail, an oval shaped caned back with inset painted oval wood plaque depicting musical instruments, flowers and music pages, sloped arms terminating to turned columns, caned sides and seat, turned front legs terminating to brass castors and tapered back legs terminating to brass casters. Ebonized and painted foliate decoration throughout. Seat with upholstered cushion and bolster pillow. 34 1/4" H x 21 1/2" W x 24" D. Continental, likely English. Late 19th century. 2nd item: A Regency mahogany and satinwood armchair having a turned crestrail, caned back with painted oval wood plaque depicting a young female, sloped arms terminating to turned columns, caned sides and seat, turned front legs terminating in brass castors and tapered back legs terminating to brass casters. Jan Sawka (Polish American, 1946-2012) seven part mixed media painting series titled "Letter 1". The initials F. S, images of a mailbox and images of couples are recurrent themes in all seven individual works. All paintings titled, numbered, dated 1977/78 and signed. Housed in matching painted black frames. Ranging in size from Sight – 20 1/4" H x 14 3/4" W, Framed – 21 3/4" H x 16 1/4" W to Sight – 58 1/2" H x 40 3/8" W, Framed – 59 1/8" H x 42" W. Note: This is a pre-cursor to his work Letter Number 2, see: https://www.jansawka.com/paintings/letterno2.html. Biography: Jan Sawka immigrated to the U.S. in 1977 from Poland, where he had designed politically dissident posters and stage sets for avante-garde theater groups. His poster designs were known for their wordplay and deadpan style, in which symbols of protest often made subtle appearances. He became an editorial illustrator for the New York Times and worked on sets for plays at the Jean Cocteau Reperatory Theater. Large scale commissions included a peace monument in Israel celebrating the Abrahamic faiths, a peace monument in Nagasaki, and a glass obelisk called the Tower of Light in the United Arab Emirates. Signed "Perry" lower right. Label stating that the artist was a relative of Admiral Perry, en verso. Housed in an early 20th century carved and pierced gilt frame with gilt carved liner. Group includes 2 necklaces, 1 chain, 9 pendants, 3 pair earrings, 4 cuff bracelets with turquoise, 1 ring, 1 pin and 1 hair comb. 2 items marked "Mexico". Two (2) Mayan polychrome pottery items. 1st item: Honduran polychrome ceramic cup or urn with band of stylized bird motifs decorates the upper portion of the body, with a register below containing stylized figural depictions of humans in a possible narrative sequence. 6 1/8" H x 5 7/8" dia. 2nd item: Highland Guatemalan ceramic polychrome tripod charger with repeating suns and stairs motifs along the rim, outlined in black. Stylized serpentine design with a drilled "kill hole", central region of the plate. 2 3/8" H x 13" dia. Both items Pre-Columbian, circa 550-900 AD. Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. CONDITION: 1st item: Minor wear consistent with age but overall good condition with decorative imagery intact. Spots of paint loss with largest being roughly 1 7/8" long on the rim. Areas of previous restoration, with the largest being 4 1/4" hairline crack visible from the exterior. White accretions to exterior of base. Old sticker label on the base. 2nd item: Minor overall wear to paint consistent with age. Slight accretion of white flecks, dispersed over 5" area within inner band. Three (3) Peruvian Chavin pottery vessels. 1st item: Stirrup spout vessel with stylized, geometric face designs incised onto two sides of body, flat base. 11 5/8" H x 5 5/8" dia. 2nd item: Stirrup spout vessel with applied swirl designs against a textured ground to body, flat base. 9 7/8" H x 5 1/2" dia. 3rd item: Stirrup spout vessel with a band of stylized, geometric faces incised to body, rounded base. 8 1/2" H x 5 1/2" dia. All items Pre-Columbian, circa 900-200 BC. Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. CONDITION: 1st item: Minor overall wear consistent with age to the top of the body, stirrup, and neck. Chipping to the rim of the vessel, with largest chip being 3/8" in length. Three individual hairline cracks visible on the exterior with the largest being 1 1/2" in length on the base. 2nd item: Moderate wear to stirrup handle and neck of vessel consistent with age. Multiple areas of restoration to handle and body where chipped material was reapplied, with the largest being 2 3/4" long on one swirl design. Old sticker labels on the base. 3rd item: Minor wear to stirrup handle. Very slight flaking of paint on the neck above stirrup, with largest patch being 3/8" in length. [See more photos →]

Two (2) similar Southeast Asian, likely Thai, relief carved wood temple panels depicting figures and animals enclosed within a foliate carved frame. Overall dimensions – 9 1/4" H x 31 3/4" W & 9 3/4" H x 31" W. Late 19th/Early 20th century. Note: Acquired by the consignor's father during his travels, including the Far East in the 1950's, as part of his world touring business that catered to the rich and famous. Oil on canvas seascape painting of group of sailboats at sea in moonlight, in the style of Edward Moran (PA, NY, 1829-1901). Signed lower right. Commemorative brass plaque on frame. Sight – 21 3/4" H x 35 1/2" W. Framed – 30 5/8" H x 44 1/2" W. American School, late 19th century. Provenance: The University Club of Nashville, TN; donated by Dr. and Mrs. Everette James in honor of Vanderbilt University Chancellor and Mrs. Heard. CONDITION: Overall light craquelure. American Federal tall case clock with Lucas Ryerson dial. Clock in older surface with a case comprised of mahogany, figured mahogany and line inlay, fitted with brass works. Bonnet with swan's neck pediment and fully turned columns. Arched painted dial with enameled floral sprays and birds and a brass plate reading "Lucas Ryerson" (New Jersey, 1771-1855). Ogee waist moldings with a band of figured inlay having two inlaid ovals above the shaped waist door. Waist door with figured mahogany and line inlay and one large inlaid oval of figured mahogany flanked by half-turned columns above another inset band of figured inlay with inlaid oval. Base having one large inlaid circle of figured mahogany. All above a shaped skirt with French feet. 96 3/4" H x 18" W x 10 1/8" D. Early 19th century. Note: Some records list the maker as Low Ryerson. CONDITION: Losses and patches to inlay. Left front foot missing with losses of inlay to skirt. Areas of restoration to rim and base, largest being 2 1/2" on the base. Base has 2" chip but we have this missing piece, which has a sticker attached. She subsequently won a scholarship to the Art Student League in New York, where she studied from 1940 to 1945. She received a masters degree from Claremont College in California in 1950. It was there that she began studying enamel work. Her work is presently on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, Emerson Museum of Art in Syracuse, N.Y., the Georgia Museum of Art and in the Mezzanine at the Hunter Museum of American Art. During the artist's life, she maintained a studio in Rising Fawn, Georgia. She was best known for her work in enamel on copper, which included pins, trays and large, elaborate wall pieces (courtesy: Hunter Museum of American Art, Chattanooga, TN). George Washington Hood (New Jersey, 1869-1949) oil on panel painting titled "The Buccaneer" depicting an 18th century pirate with a stern expression seated atop a chest in a rocky beach landscape, likely a painted illustration for a book. Signed "George Hood" lower right. Fragments of old brown paper backing with Boston City Club label reading "This picture presented to the Club by J.B. Lippencott, Phila" housed in an archival sleeve and attached with blue painter's tape, en verso of frame. Black ink inscription with additional artist's signature, en verso of frame.
