The majority of the items are pencil or ink sketches on paper or card stock with some artist's proofs, and a mock-up of the book. Also included is a one page TLS from Bonnie Ingber, Editor of Children's Books for HBJ, dated July 14, 1987, written to provide Williams with a First Draft of the book. S, images of a mailbox and images of couples are recurrent themes in all seven individual works. All paintings titled, numbered, dated 1977/78 and signed. Housed in matching painted black frames. Ranging in size from Sight – 20 1/4" H x 14 3/4" W, Framed – 21 3/4" H x 16 1/4" W to Sight – 58 1/2" H x 40 3/8" W, Framed – 59 1/8" H x 42" W. Biography: Jan Sawka immigrated to the U.S. in 1977 from Poland, where he had designed politically dissident posters and stage sets for avante-garde theater groups. He became an editorial illustrator for the New York Times and worked on sets for plays at the Jean Cocteau Reperatory Theater. Clock in older surface with a case comprised of mahogany, figured mahogany and line inlay, fitted with brass works. Bonnet with swan's neck pediment and fully turned columns. Arched painted dial with enameled floral sprays and birds and a brass plate reading "Lucas Ryerson" (New Jersey, 1771-1855). Ogee waist moldings with a band of figured inlay having two inlaid ovals above the shaped waist door. Waist door with figured mahogany and line inlay and one large inlaid oval of figured mahogany flanked by half-turned columns above another inset band of figured inlay with inlaid oval. Base having one large inlaid circle of figured mahogany. All above a shaped skirt with French feet. 96 3/4" H x 18" W x 10 1/8" D. Early 19th century. All items Iron Age, Cypro-Geometric to Cypro-Archaic period, circa 1050-600 BC. Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. CONDITION: 1st item: Moderate overall abrasion consistent with age but painted/glazed decorations to the vessel remain visible with slight fading. Old sticker label on the base. 2nd item: Minor overall surface abrasion consistent with age and slight fading to painted design. Accretion of grainy but clear substance on the spout where handle connects and spots on neck. 1 1/2" long indent on body along red decorative banding which has a 1/2" long hairline crack down its center. 3rd item: Moderate overall abrasion to the vessel consistent with age with a more affected area interrupting the banded design on the body for roughly 3". Areas of restoration to rim and base, largest being 2 1/2" on the base. Base has 2" chip but we have this missing piece, which has a sticker attached. Pottery | Virginia (Evelyn) Dudley (TN/Georgia, 1913-1981) art archive including a large signed abstract painted silk wall hanging mounted onto linen (Sight – 67 1/2" H x 35" W, Overall – 70 1/2" H x 63" W), a copper enameled abstract plaque depicting a cat (4 1/8" H x 7 1/8" W), a signed pottery soap dish (1 1/8" H x 3 5/8" W), a signed pottery cup (2 1/2" H) and four (4) artist's biography cards. Biography: Virginia Dudley studied with Frank Baisden at the University of Chattanooga during her early college career. She subsequently won a scholarship to the Art Student League in New York, where she studied from 1940 to 1945. She received a masters degree from Claremont College in California in 1950. It was there that she began studying enamel work. Her work is presently on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, Emerson Museum of Art in Syracuse, N.Y., the Georgia Museum of Art and in the Mezzanine at the Hunter Museum of American Art. During the artist's life, she maintained a studio in Rising Fawn, Georgia. She was best known for her work in enamel on copper, which included pins, trays and large, elaborate wall pieces (courtesy: Hunter Museum of American Art, Chattanooga, TN).
