US Navy compensating brass ship binnacle. Maker's specification plate, "Compensating Binnacle U.S. Navy Type 7 No. 444 Bureau of Navigation 1923 Made by G S Ritchie & Sons Brookline Mass." Fitted with Lionel gimbaled compass, hood with handles and compensating balls. This "torpedo" binnacle design was used on U.S. Navy as well as merchant ships. 59"H. Circa 1923. Provenance: Gatlinburg, TN collection. Condition: Overall very good condition, hood with minor dents and interior paint of hood flaking.
