Oil on board painting after Raphael's "Madonna della Sedia" depicting Mary seated in a chair and embracing the Christ child, while John the Baptist watches with prayerful hands. Corners of board with gilt geometric decoration, imitating spandrels. Unsigned but painted by Julius Hunger (1880-1950), a relative of the consignor. Housed in a gilt carved an gesso foliate frame. Sight – 26 1/8" square. Framed – 33 7/8" H x 33 3/4" W. Note: Julius Hunger (German, 1880-1950) studied architecture and was required to take art his first semester of university. He traveled to Florence to copy the Madonna and after graduation, worked as an architect for a coal mining company in North Rhine-Westphalia. CONDITION: Painting overall good condition with light craquelure. Minute areas of paint loss to Christ child's arm. Framed with minor wear and scattered losses to back edge.
