Maurice Cook (American/Alabama, b. 1948) oil on canvas folk art painting titled "Harvest Time" and depicting a farmstead with a house on a hill and African American figures accompanied by a donkey and dog harvesting sugar cane below. 2001. Titled lower left and signed and dated lower right. Housed in a gilt wood frame. Sight: 24" H x 18" W. Framed: 25" H x 19 1/4" W. Note: Maurice Cook is an African American self taught artist whose paintings depict everyday life in the rural South. Although the activities are easily identified, he paints people without facial features so the images can be universal. (Source: the Walker County Arts Alliance).
