Lot 981: 2 Art Nouveau Period Posters incl. Bicycle, Maitres de l’Affiche

1st item: Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen (Switzerland/France, 1859-1923) color lithograph of a woman in a red blouse and black skirt who rides a petroleum-powered tricycle toward frightened geese, from Maitres de l’Affiche, 1899, after the artist’s 1899 poster. Printed by Impremiere Chaix, Paris, with blind stamp lower right. Housed under plexiglass in an ebonized frame with mauve mat and reveals. Sight: 14 1/4 in H x 10 1/4 in W. Framed: 23 1/2 in H x 19 1/2 in W. 2nd item: William Bradley (American, 1868-1962) lithograph entitled “The Poet and His Lady” that depicts a man and woman seated in a woodland setting and rendered in an Art Nouveau style, 1898. After the artist’s 1895 Chap Book counter placard. From Maitres de l’Affiche. Printed by Impremiere Chaix, Paris, with blind stamp lower right.Housed under plexiglass in a rusticated gilt frame with black mat and gilt reveal. Sight: 14 1/2 in x 10 1/2 in W. Framed: 22 in H x 18 in W.
