Adja Yunkers (American/Latvian, 1900-1983) color woodcut on Japan paper, “The Gathering of the Clans,” 1952. Abstracted human or rampant animal forms depicted in an expressive style in seven colors seem to congregate in the center of the composition. Signed in the block, lower right, and signed, dated, titled, and numbered 4/14 in pencil, lower margin. Floated under plexiglass in a wooden frame with cream mat. Sheet: 25 in H x 28 in W. Frame: 37 in H x 39 1/4 in W.
PROVENANCE: The estates of Walter and Dr. Mary Schatz, Nashville.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition, with wide margins and strong colors. Faint 2-inch x 1-inch tideline to upper center margin. With minor marginal creasing, especially to upper and lower edges of sheet. Faint toning to lower margin plus two specks of liquid staining to lower right corner, outside of image.
