Two (2) Carol Wax (American, b. 1953) works on paper related to the artist’s mezzotint print, “Lepidoptiks.” Both depict a pair of binoculars that stand on end and cast complex shadows on the surface behind them. Item 1: Preparatory graphite drawing for “Lepidoptiks,” 1992. Signed at dated in pencil, lower right. Sheet: 11 in H x 7 3/4 in W. Item 2: “Lepidoptiks” mezzotint, 1993. Signed, titled, and numbered 16/50 in pencil, lower margin. Sight: 12 1/4 in H x 8 3/4 in W. Both items housed together under plexiglass in a distressed, silvered wood frame with black mat. Item 1 floated. Frame: 35 in H x 17 1/2 in W.
PROVENANCE: The estates of Walter and Dr. Mary Helen Schatz, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: Both items in overall very good condition. Item 2 is richly inked, with strong contrasts. Not examined out of frame.
