1st Item: Ebonized walking stick with gold metal top engraved “N F Simpson from Fredericksburg Battlefield Sept 24 1892”; decorated with C scrolls and flowers that descend to panels and foliate. Wooden shaft terminates in metal tip, wrapped in a silver metal band. The base of the handle is marked with 3 diamonds in a circle. Overall 35 3/8 in. L, Handle 2 in. L. 2nd Item: Ebonized walking stick with gold metal top engraved with foliate scroll decoration; no marks or inscription. Overall 33 3/4 in. L, Handle 2 in. L. 3rd Item: Walking stick of natural form, made of a branch with side branches removed, with original varnish coating, terminating in a fitted brass tip. Topped by a brass cap with no inscriptions or markings. Overall 35 3/4 in. L.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville collection.
CONDITION: 1st Item: Few scratches to wood finish. 2nd Item: top shows surface wear, 1/4″ dent to one side of handle; tip with 1″ sliver of wood chipped. 3rd Item: Handle loose on top as is tip on bottom, some chipping of bark underneath cap.
