Collection of thirty (30) marbles, featuring sulphide, handmade, and contemporary pieces. The first group consists of six (6) handmade transparent swirl marbles, including five (5) divided-core marbles with 3 to 4 inner bands and white or yellow outer latticino bands, and one 3-stage solid-core marble. All of these marbles have ground/faceted pontils, with sizes ranging from 1 1/8 in to 1 1/2 in diameter. These are likely German, dating to the early 20th century. The second group contains two (2) sulphide marbles, one (1) featuring a lamb figure and the other with a lion, measuring 1 1/2 in and 1 3/8 in diameter, respectively. The third group includes five (3) marbles: a peppermint swirl marble (5/8 in diameter), a small divided-core marble (1/2 in diameter), a solid-core swirl marble with a white core (15/16 in diameter), and five latticino swirl marbles, including one orange, with sizes ranging from 1 1/16 in to 5/8 in. The fourth group features three (3) contemporary marbles: a transparent ribbon swirl with a pinch pontil, a Joseph’s coat marble, and a blue and black latticino marble, possibly machine-made, each measuring 7/8 in diameter. These are likely from the 20th century. The fifth group includes eleven (11) German blown glass marbles with sulphide animal figurals, comprising five dogs, three bears, one lion, one camel, and one squirrel, all 1 1/2 in diameter and dating to the mid/late 19th century.
CONDITION: Overall, the items are in good condition, with wear consistent with its age and use. There are minor chips and dings, as well as some clouding on certain surfaces. The lion sulphide may have been polished. Expected air bubbles and imperfections from the manufacturing process are present.
