French picture clock framed painting, interior with the label of Maison Wurtel, Paris. The painting depicts a village scene beside a river, with figures traversing a stone bridge to and from the village with ducks swimming in the river foreground, with trees, other structures, and mountains in the background. The clock tower is fitted with a white enamel Roman dial marked "MON. WURTEL A PARIS"; the Maison Wurtel manufacturer''s paper label lower right interior of the frame. Works consist of a two-train spring-driven 8-day movement and are numbered 2305 92, with four striker coils. All are housed in a giltwood frame with foliate carved corners and a deep box hinged along the top edge and opening to reveal the movement. Sight: 20 7/8" H x 24 3/4" W. Framed: 28 1/4" H x 32 1/2" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Sarah Gaunt, Signal Mountain, TN.
CONDITION: Painting in overall very good condition. Frame with old repairs and later repaint. Works not tested but appear to be fully functional. There is no evidence that the works included a musical mechanism other than normal striking tones.
