Laura Wilson Luce (American/Pennsylvania, 1845-1942) oil on canvas impressionist landscape painting. Chickens peck for food behind a barn on a sunny day, while a white house beyond is shaded by a grove of green trees. Signed “L.W. Luce” lower right. Distressed whitewashed carved frame with wood mat. Stretcher: 10 in. H x 11 in. W. Frame: 14 1/2 in. H x 15 1/2 in. W. Biography: Laura Wilson Luce is known for her impressionist landscape and still life paintings. Following the advice of the American artist, A.H. Wyant, Mrs. Luce studied with the landscape painter Charlotte B. Coman, who heavily influenced her work. She went on to balance a career teaching art in her home of Titusville, PA, while also exhibiting her art nationally. Luce was represented in several of the early Carnegie International Exhibitions at Pittsburgh and at the National Academy of Design in New York City. She was also an exhibiting member of the American Association of Women Painters and Sculptors in New York.

CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Some faint scattered craquelure, most notably along upper edge, near treeline.
