Tintype photograph portrait of U.S. Capt. Williamson W. Bacon of the 22nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, ninth plate size. Bacon is shown wearing civilian clothing and seated with his hands gripping his jacket and what appears to be the handle of an umbrella. After joining the Union Army in December of 1861, Bacon was promoted to 2nd lieutenant in April of 1862 and promoted to captain in January of 1863. He was wounded at the Yazoo River during the battle of Chickasaw Bayou on December 29th, 1862, and he resigned from the military in September of 1865.The photograph is housed in an A.P. Critchlow & Co. gutta percha union case. Tintype: 2''''W x 2.5''''H. Case: 2.75''''W x 3''''H.
PROVENANCE: Private Kentucky Collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with scattered surface spotting to image and oxidation spots to gilt mat. The case has worn spot to exterior and wear to interior label and fabric.
