Scarce Tennessee coin silver calling card case, masonic and incuse marks for David Large Hope, working Knoxville,1828-1869. The case, of cartouche form with hinged lid, features engine turned chevron, ribbon and floral designs with saddle shaped reserve monogrammed L.J. Greenough. 3 3/4 in. x 2 3/4 in. 1.52 oz troy. Circa 1860. Note: David Hope was working by 1828 in Knoxville, the same year he earned the degree of Master Mason at the city’s Mount Libanus Lodge No. 59. He worked alone and in partnership with others over the years until 1852, when he bought out the contents of Samuel Bell’s silversmithing shop and established his own permanent business.
