David Bates (English, 1840-1921) oil on canvas rural Welsh landscape painting entitled "The Mill on the Llugwy," 1894. A stone mill house and waterwheel stand to right of the rocky river Llugwy, with mountains visible in the distance beyond. A figure peers over the edge of a stone wall in the middle ground while a second figure navigates the terrain below. Signed and dated "David Bates 1894," lower right. Additionally signed, dated, and also titled en verso. With Beaconsfield Gallery, Buckinghamshire label and Colonel Roy L. Strong (Tennessee, 1917-2017) sticker affixed to back of frame. Housed in a rusticated giltwood frame. Sight: 17 1/2" H x 13 3/8" W. Frame: 21 1/2" H x 17 1/4" W.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition, with minor surface grime.
