2 Cornelis Bos (Dutch/Flemish, c.1515-1555/6) diminutive engravings of dancing couples, from a series of twelve prints of dancing couples in outdoor settings, possibly at a wedding feast, c. 1537-c. 1555 and/or 1546-1548. Both initialed CB in the plate, upper left. 1st item: A couple dancing together, viewed from behind, with mountains and a city in the distance. Ref.: Schele 107; Hollstein Dutch & Flemish 97-108. 2" H x 1 7/16" W. 2nd item: The same couple flanked by vegetation, the woman viewed in profile and the man frontally. Ref.: Schele 109; Hollstein Dutch & Flemish 97-108. Both floated under glass in gilt wood frames with foliate designs and cream mats. Sheets: 2" H x 1 7/16" W. Frames: 14 5/16" H x 12 3/4" W.
PROVENANCE: Purchased from the Galleria M. Arte in Padova, Italy, in 1999. Copies of the gallery''s certificates of authenticity are available to the winning bidder.
CONDITION: Both strong, well-inked impressions in overall very good condition, trimmed to the plate and adhered to backing. 1st item with 1/4" vertical tear without loss to upper edge, descending into man''s head, plus abrasion to upper edge between the couple''s heads. 2nd item minute restoration to plant at right edge, 3/16" L, and sky to left of man''s face, 1/8" L.
