Chinese Duan Inkstone with relief carved figures of scholars and deer, with raised Chinese characters. Signed on underside. 1 1/2" H x 8" W x 5 1/2" D (deepest point). Together with a lacquer box comprised of a footed tray with lift-top cover adorned with incised grape, floral and Chinese calligraphy decoration on a basketweave textured background. Gilt signature to underside. 2 1/2"H x 11"W x 6 1/2"D. Both items late 19th to early 20th century. CONDITION: Inkstone: some wear to areas just outside the well; exfoliation inside well. Lacquer box: Overall good condition with shrinkage cracks and a few small minor losses to edges.
