Item 1: Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany side chair with ribbon carved back, Marlborough front legs, and seat upholstered in crewel embroidery. Tendons extend through the rear legs. 38 in. H x 21 3/4 in. W x 19 1/2 in. D. Late 18th century. Item 2: American Windsor armchair of mixed woods with bamboo turnings, shaped seat and turned stretcher. 36 in. H x 18 in. W. x 18 1/2 in. D. Circa 1810.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Donna C. Rogers, Greeneville, TN.
CONDITION: 1st item – Old, possibly original surface. Scattered abrasions and wear, especially on front legs and stretcher. Losses to crewel embroidery revealing horsehair filler. 2nd item – chair feet have been extended approx. 1 3/4 in. Remnants of old brown paint underside of seat. Circular cutout at center indicating it was formerly used as a commode chair.
