Two (2) polychrome painted oval wedding or bride's boxes, one with a fox and white bird within a landscape decorated scene to the lid and foliate decoration to the sides, all on a green ground. The second with an applied lithograph to the lid depicting children playing within an interior and foliate decoration to the sides on a bright blue ground. 5 3/8" H x 16 3/4" W x 10 1/2" D and 6 1/2" H x 16 5/8" W x 10 1/4" D. American or Continental, 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Marlin Phythyon Sanders, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st box with expected scattered wear and losses to wood and light scattered rubbing and losses to paint decoration. Staves to lid are slightly detached. 2nd box with water stain to lithograph scene and overall general light wear and minor losses to paint.
