Southern two-piece walnut Jackson press, Carolinas or Virginia, yellow pine and poplar secondary. The upper section with a stepped ogee cornice over two eight-pane glass doors enclosing four shelves and three drawers with nailed construction and wood pulls. The lower section has applied molding below the top, two dovetailed drawers and two paneled doors enclosing two shelves, all resting on a shaped skirt and slightly tapered feet. Both sections with round wood pulls and kite-shaped bone escutcheons. 93 1/2" H x 47 5/8" W x 20" D. Circa 1840.
CONDITION: The top section appears to be an early association with the base, some sun fading; the hinges are replacements with patch repairs. The lower section left drawer has part of the drawer bottom with older replacements and a replaced back, the other drawer has a replaced drawer bottom (plywood) and replaced back. Replaced drawer supports. Both cases with older refinished surfaces, some wear and scratching.
