Southern Sheraton sugar chest, cherry with poplar secondary, hinged rectangular top over a dovetailed case with kite inlaid escutcheon and interior divider; case sits atop a base with single long dovetailed drawer with scratchbeaded edges, resting on reeded legs with ring and ball turned feet. 37" H x 35" W x 19 1/2" D. Circa 1825.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Allison and John Beasley, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: Top molding and one strip on the back of the replaced. The remainder of the top is original but has been refinished and is darker than the rest of the case. Some filled holes and a 2" patch to top. Some scratches, shrinkage, and fading to surface and feet. Small area of repair to mid-molding. Drawer sides built up. A few later screws to back. Upper lock removed; drawer lock and key present.
