An American Federal banjo clock with a turned brass finial, above a silver metal dial with Roman numerals and metal markers, brass bezel, eglomise throat, and base tablet, the throat decorated with a stylized graduated cartouche motif flanked by brass side arms. The base tablet depicts a bucolic landscape scene with a winding stream foreground and houses with rolling hills background. Dial is unmarked. 39 1/4" H x 10 1/8" W x 4 1/8" D. 1st Qtr. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Sarah Gaunt, Signal Mountain, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Eglomise tablet may not be original, and has minor scattered losses to the paint decoration, primarily to the perimeter. Base "shelf" is a later replacement. Losses to the finial. Top right corner of upper section of back with old repaired vertical breaks. Wear and oxidation to dial. Works not checked or guaranteed.
