George Fort Gibbs (Pennsylvania/Washington D.C., 1870-1942) oil on board illustration painting rendered primarily in shades of gray and depicting a couple in early 20th century attire in a kitchen. The woman sits and peels vegetables while the man stands and eyes a vegetable that has fallen onto the floor between them. Signed "George Gibbs," center left. With original publication label en verso noting that the illustration was "the property of the Butterick Publishing company" and "accepted by Suffolk Eagle for reproduction," along with Henry M. Taws, Philadelphia, art supplies company sticker. Housed in a distressed gilt wood frame. Board: 14 7/8" H x 15 1/8" W. Frame: 20" H x 21 3/4" W.
