Ashton Wilson (New York/West Virginia, 1880-1952) World War II oil on canvas illustration painting depicting a pastiche of American landmarks and symbolic imagery including the Capitol dome, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, farm field with shocks of wheat, and produce including pumpkin, corn, and fruits. Signed "Ashton Wilson" and dated "1944," lower right. Housed in an ornate gilt wood frame. Canvas: 25" H x 30" W. Frame: 31 1/2" H x 36 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: Private Virginia Collection.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. With abrasion or scratch without loss to liberty bell, 2 1/2" L, plus areas of localized craquelure, largest to area to left of Liberty Bell, 4 1/2" L x 2 1/2" W.
