Paloma Torres Estrada (Mexico, b. 1960) clay totem sculpture consisting of 9 individual sculpted pieces assembled onto a central rod. The sculpture features a subtle beige background with burnt orange lifted lines that encircle the pieces, creating a contrast. The sculpture rests on a black metal base. The sculpture measures 82 in H and the base measures 28 in by 16 in. 20th century.
Biography: Paloma Torres was born in Mexico City and earned a degree in Visual Arts from the National School of Visual Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She was member of the professional engraving workshop led by artist Carlos García and held artist residencies at Artists on the Coast in Careyes, Jalisco; the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France; and with René Derouin in Val David, Québec, Canada. In 1986, she completed a Master’s degree in color engraving at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Since 2000, she has been a member of the National Creators’ System. Over the past six years, Torres has taught art history and graphic design at Iberoamericana University in Mexico City and currently serves on the panel of the National State Creators’ System.
