Paloma Torres Estrada (Mexico, b. 1960), textural urban bronze sculpture titled “Ellipse”, in the form of a tall, shaped and textured bronze pillar wrapped with horizontal bronze bands, mounted onto an oval base. Unsigned. 72 in. H. Base measures 19 in. L x 11 in. W.
Biography: Paloma Torres was born in Mexico City and earned a degree in Visual Arts from the National School of Visual Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She was a member of the professional engraving workshop led by artist Carlos García and held artist residencies at Artists on the Coast in Careyes, Jalisco; the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France; and with Rene Derouin in Val David, Quebec, Canada. In 1986, she completed a Master’s degree in color engraving at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Since 2000, she has been a member of the National Creators’ System. Over the past six years, Torres has taught art history and graphic design at Iberoamericana University in Mexico City and currently serves on the panel of the National State Creators’ System.
