Ohara Koson (Japan, 1877-1945) AKA Shoson or Hoson kacho-e bird and flower woodblock print with embossing, 1927. A group of five white egrets stand in water and huddle together as snow falls around them. Printed 1931-1941, with Watanabe “D” seal to lower right margin. Signed with seal, lower left. Mat inscribed “A group of herons in snow” and “Shoson” in pencil. Housed under acrylic in a painted and giltwood frame with white mat. Sheet: 15 1/4 in H x 10 1/2 in W. Sight: 14 in H x 9 in W. Frame: 20 1/2 in H x 13 3/4 in W.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville Collection.
CONDITION: A very good impression with strong contrasts and crisp embossing. Sheet is laid to mount. With mat burn to left and right edges of sight area, not visible framed, and even toning to sheet within sight area. Mat with even toning.
