Robert Joseph Warrens (Louisiana/American, b. 1933), gouache on paper titled “Global Warming.” Surrealistic depiction of a man standing on a gushing oil tank, while water levels rise. Male and female figures use hand signals for “I love you,” while a seated man holds a polluted globe. Initialed “RW” lower right. Housed in a contemporary metal frame on a white board under glass. Sight: 46 1/2 in H x 49 1/2 W. Framed: 48 3/4 in H. 51 3/4 in W. Circa 1999. Biographical note: “Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Robert Joseph Warrens received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and later an MFA from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. In 1959, he took a teaching position at Concord College in Athens, West Virginia. In 1967, he moved south to teach art at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge. Warrens is a narrative painter known for his provocative, humorous, and whimsical storytelling. He retired from LSU in 1998 as a professor emeritus.” (Source: Arts New Orleans)
