Sterling Strauser (American, 1907-1995) untitled abstract oil on canvas painting rendered in dark tones of black, brown and gray, accented by swaths of bright pale green and white. Signed “Strauser” upper right and dated 1956. Note: the consignor, who knew Strauser personally and whose father acquired it directly from the artist, believes it may have been inspired by one of Strauser’s favorite waterfalls, Buck Hill Falls in the Pocono Mountains. Housed in a shadowbox style frame with painted gold and black edges, with painted green and gilt fillet and tan linen mat. Sight: 24 in. H x 37 in. W. Frame: 30 in H. x 34 in W.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Myron King, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Painting is in excellent condition. Several small minor abrasions to frame, edge losses up to 2 in. length.
