Two (2) Guatemalan School Religious Paintings. 1st item: Guatemalan school oil on wood panel religious painting depicting the holy Trinity, with Jesus Christ holding a cross on the left, God the Father holding an orb on the right, and the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove hovering above, while four cherubs sit amid the clouds below them. Housed in an ornate carved and painted wood frame. Sight: 37" H x 28 3/4" W. Framed: 48 1/4" H x 40 1/4" W. 2nd item: Guatemalan school oil on canvas religious painting depicting St. Anthony of Padua holding the Christ Child in one arm and a madonna lily in the other. Housed in a carved and painted giltwood frame. Sight: 20 1/2" H x 14 1/4" W. Framed: 27" H x 21" W. Late 18th/19th century.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation to benefit the acquisitions fund.
CONDITION: 1st item: Some paint loss, abrasion and craquelure throughout the work. Split to panel at center. Significant water damage in the upper left corner causing craquelure and paint loss. Painting is loose in frame. Overall wear and paint loss to frame. 2nd item: Painting has been adhered to a board with significant canvas and paint losses to the perimeter of the work. Overall wear expected with age. Frame in overall good condition with some losses to gilt.
