Afro "Afro" Basaldella (New York/California/Italy, 1912-1976) abstract color etching with lithographic transfer titled "Sottobosco," in muted black, white, grey, and beige tones, 1959. Pencil signed lower right "Afro" and numbered lower left 73/90. Unframed. Sight: 16 3/8" H x 20 1/8" W. Sheet: 20 1/2" H x 26 1/2" W. Note: Plate was designed and signed by Afro and etched and printed by Enrico Castelli. Exhibition history (according to 1980 institutional publication): International Biennial of Prints, Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati OH, 1960, cat. no 247.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by a Southern institution to benefit the acquisitions fund; Acquired from the Cincinnati Art Museum, 1960.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Sun struck within old mat window, with old tape along upper edge. Some losses to upper edge due to tape removal.
